For a while, and especially with designers, flush mount fixtures have gotten quite a bit of a bad rap. Many designers are forced to use these with lower ceilings and often cringe. However more recently, designers have been starting to use these as design features instead of design burdens. While there are still many unfortunate designs of flush mount fixtures, it’s the simple, more modern, ones that are becoming stand out stars and have begun to replace can lights completely. This trend is not necessarily a new idea but (shocker) a recycled concept from many popular Mid-Century interiors. Keep scrolling as I highlight some of my favorite examples.
This kitchen has everything I love in a space. Details? Contrast? Mixed Materials? Functionality? Check, check, check, check! And those lights are the perfect addition to this relatively simple but detail-packed kitchen. (Source)
These are used in a much more subtle way, but equally effective. Instead of adding recessed can lights which would distract from the dramatic ceiling detail, these fixtures almost fade into the background. (Source)
These fixtures match so well with the warm tones of the oak cabinetry and paneling, as well as the sconces on either side of the sink. While there are several different light fixtures in this space, they aren’t competing for your attention. (Source)
This apartment features these single and double flush mount fixtures throughout to create a cohesive look. The double flush mount is an interesting concept that you don’t see very much so I had to include this. (Source)
As you can see, this is not a trend that requires a certain style and can be applied to virtually any space that calls for overhead lighting. So what do you think of this trend? Is it here to stay or just a passing fad? Would you try it in your home or next design project? I personally love this trend and think if done in the right way, this will remain a reoccurring trend for years to come. We are actually doing this in a kitchen we are currently working on and I can’t wait to share it with you guys! Stay tuned and stay safe!
